Students and former students
who have attended Texas A&M University are known as "Aggies."
The name was coined after the turn of the century due in large part to
A&M's involvement in the teaching of agriculture. Other names such as farmers or the "cadets" were in wide
use prior to World War II. The
term Aggieland is used to describe the A&M campus and surroundings.
