Before the A&M Texas game
each year, the Aggie bonfire is ignited symbolizing a burning desire to
beat the H--- out of t.u. The tradition originated at the turn of the
century when cadets would scour the countryside for "anything that
would burn." Today, several weeks before the bonfire, a cutting site
is selected, and the freshman class then cuts the trees and moves them to
the specified location. Once
construction of the world's largest bonfire is completed, it is set ablaze
(the night before a home game, and a day earlier if an away game.) A yell
practice attended by thousands is held while it is burning.
