Baytown A&M Mother's Club
March 1, 2007 Minutes
Ruby Branham honored the past president’s of the Baytown A&M Mother’s
Club with maroon and white carnations. The past presidents whom were
present were: Marilyn Ferguson, Winnie Mills, Betty Rice, Darlene Duhon,
Joyce Tommye, Joyce Boyles, Sandlin, Marilyn Kingman, Kathy Thompson,
Becky Erickson, Jan Novosad, Gloria Graves, and Peggy Robertson.
Ruby Branham led the prayer to begin the meeting.
HOWDY Ags organization provided the program. Five Aggie Students
presented the program. Taylor Freeman from Katy and class of ’07,
Braden from Commerce and class of ’09, Katy Dimas from Dallas and class
of ’09, Melissa from Arlington and class of ’09, and Jordan from Plano
can class of ’09. HOWDY Ags sponsors HOWDY week, occurring this week,
to support the continued tradition of saying Howdy to fellow students,
community members and visitors to Texas A&M. Howdy is indicative of the
camaraderie and the Aggie spirit. The organization was founded in 1997
and maintains a membership of approximately fifty students. The
students present divided the Aggie Mom’s into small groups of two or
three asking each group to develop an acronym for the word HOWDY. The
Mom’s present developed great acronyms and the students asked for copies
to take back to their organization. Prizes were given for the first
place team. The organization sold t-shirts to the Moms who wanted to
support the HOWDY Ags organization.
Members reviewed the minutes from the February 1, 2007, meeting.
Joyce Boyles made a motion to accept the minutes, and Debbie Lochridge
provided a second. The minutes were voted upon and approved as written.
Debbie Lochridge presented the treasurers. Report stated the
Federation and archive dues had been paid. The interest income from the
savings account for the 2006 year, $67.65, was moved into the chapter
checking account. Linda Couch made a motion to accept the report and
Gloria Graves seconded the motion. The report was approved and will be
filed for audit. An additional discussion was held regarding the
archives and what has the Baytown chapter placed in the files. Gloria
Graves stated the 50 Year Anniversary Baytown Aggie Mom Cookbook was
archived. Darlene Duhon mentioned she had a scrapbook from many years
ago which she will bring to the next meeting. The scrapbook may be
archived and then presented to the Baytown Historical Museum, suggestion
by Linda Couch. Darlene will bring the scrapbook to the April meeting.
A membership report was given by Debbie Lochridge, the number remains
the same, 52 members and 3 associate members.
Ruby stated that in April a formal program will not be presented.
The April meeting will be a time for the members to socialize and enjoy
one another’s company.
The Fundraising for the remainder of the year was confirmed. Becky
Erickson stated that Outback steakhouse in Baytown will provide the
organization with 200 tickets to sell for dinners during the month of
May. The tickets will be available at the April meeting. The members
need to be soliciting items for the silent auction at the Howdy Party
during the summer. Mary Jane Parker stated that the Club still is
selling Aggie Flip Flops, “Gig’em” signs, and the James Avery Aggie Mom
necklace will be auctioned in May.
Old Business items were discussed.
Gloria Graves will be attending the District Meeting as will Kay
Stephens from our club. Other members are encouraged to attend. The
Baytown Aggie Mom club is responsible for the invocation, presenting a
year end summary and providing two door prizes.
Kathy Thompson stated the Scholarship Committee has contacted all the
high school counselors and the application deadline for high school
seniors is March 7, 2007. Ruby Branham stated, according to revised
Standing Rules, the executive officers met after the last meeting and
for the coming year two five hundred dollar scholarships will be awarded
to high school seniors and five seven hundred fifty dollar scholarships
will be awarded to current Aggie students.
Gloria Graves sent the Valentine cards to current Aggie students.
Debbie Morris has been sending Birthday cards to current Aggie
students.
New business items were discussed.
Banquet in May will be catered by Antonio’s Restaurant in Baytown.
Jan Novosad presented the various options: Dena’s Bakery, Antonio’s
Restaurant, El Toro Restaurant, and Iguana Joe’s Restaurant. The Mom’s
present voted to have Antonio’s and monies will be collected at the
April meeting.

Betty Rice made a motion the nominating committees selections be
accepted. Darlene Duhon seconded the motion. By unanimous vote the
slate of officers was approved. The new officers will be installed at
the May meeting.
Ruby made announcements and read thank you notes from Manju’s
daughter and Sharon Jeffries son for receiving the pocket monies from
the February meeting. Parent’s weekend is April 13- 15, 2007. March
31, 2007, the Veterinary School will have an Open House. March 31, 2007,
the Fort Bend Aggie Mom’s will have a dinner dance at the River Bend
country Club with the Aggie Orchestra performing.
Aggie Brags were announced by Jan Novosad, Mary Jane Parker and Peggy
Robertson.
Betty Rice announced her dad will be announced at the Muster in
College Station.
Pocket monies were announced and presented to Janet Traylor for her
daughter Jacquelyn, and to Mary Jane Parker for her daughter Kylie.
Peggy Robertson made a motion to adjourn and Debbie Lochridge made
the second. The members voted to adjourn.
