Aggie Traditions
Introduction
Being a Texas Aggie is a
lifelong experience. For many
it begins at birth when a bib that says "Howdy, I'm a Texas
Aggie." Families speak of generations of Texas Aggies that in some
cases span the school's 100-year heritage. Children are indoctrinated with Aggie T-shirts and hats long before
they ever see the A&M campus. Yet,
once enrolled at Texas A&M, whether for a semester or for four or five
or six years, identity with and membership in the "one great
fraternity" is automatic and virtually irrevocable. The question is, what is this intangible thread, more commonly
referred to as "spirit" that make Aggies times overbearing, yet
always loyal and true to their alma Mater!
There is no word or group of
words, no one picture or activity that embodies the true and complete
essence of the Aggie Spirit. The
spirit of Aggieland transcends all boundaries and even the rational
imagination for it is truly intangible. Spirit cannot be legislated, planned refined, or even quantified.
In the final
analysis-notwithstanding the worldwide Aggie Muster, class reunions, the
Twelfth Man, the size of the University, the wins and losses on the
gridiron, the good times and hard times experienced at A&M. The Aggies Spirit is an individual identity with the rich
heritage passed down through the years. In return, the spirit is passed on to the next class of students
and generations of Aggies to be.
.......... The
"spirit" is alive and well in Aggieland..........
