The traditions of yells and
humping it both go way back in Aggie lore. During games, the yell
leaders use hand signals to indicate to the "Twelfth Man" what
yell will occur next. Through
this signal, the students in the front row understand which yell is next,
and pass the signal upward until the entire student body knows what is
coming up. The "Twelfth
Man" then assumes the position for the yell, referred to as
"humping it" (bending over with the hands placed just above the
knees, properly aligning the mouth, throat and back to allow the maximum
amount of Volume).
